Marin Century notes

Adding notes from our volunteers

From Bloomfield, we could get in to both Tam and English Hill with my twin lead j-pole and Dennis’s FTM-350 Mobile.

The usual Stinson Beach challenges with radio reception. Worked well with the fog but disappeared with it as well!  Thanks to all the Net Controllers for hanging in there with us!  Otherwise a beautiful “Day at the Beach”

From Lagunitas School: The century ride was pretty straight forward and definitely not air conditioned like Callum’s foggy rest stop.

We had several riders who made wrong turns, including one who passed through the rest stop twice because he turned right instead of left after circumnavigating the Classic Southern loop/Nicasio Reservoir. Only one person was SAGd out for medical reasons – a heat related illness. He was assessed by a rider who was a nurse practitioner instead of the EMT.

Here is Heat-related illness info from the CDC that may be helpful for future events or out hiking/biking in hot weather. Of course as radio operators we will not be diagnosing or treating anything but as a radio hiker I have seen people in the heat exhaustion phase and heat cramping phase on the Double Dipsea 2 years ago when it was hot AND smoky.
