Ridge To Bridge on a very wet day

In spite of damp conditions, all went well for the Ridge to Bridge event.  The photos I have received so far have been added to the gallery.  More photos are here.  Thank you  Oliver and everyone for making the day go so smoothly in spite of wet conditions!  Looking forward to the Jane Fondo event April 27th.

..fairly typical for APRS to show weird deviations, based on reflections. The blue lines are predictions of where the tracker is going based on speed and direction, and once a beacon is received the blue line is replaced with tha actual track…the straight blue line seems to indicate an attempt to fill in the track once you got back in range.

And for a VERY RELEVANT note from the very wet day:  For electronics that get wet, remove batteries and  dry them out on an oven set to proof ( ~150F) for a couple of hours or immerse in a bag of rice (to adsorb moisture) for a few days.  If you use the rice, make sure rice does not get into ports of the device.

Regular paper being used at Cardiac was turning to pulp due to the unavoidable moisture.  Rite in the Rain also makes waterproof paper for use in laser printers.

“I think the plan of hiking from White Gate against the flow of runners, leaving about 1000 hours, and returning from Cardiac to White Gate, starting about 1300 hours, worked pretty well.  None of the runners I encountered needed my help, although I did end up following some hikers down the Dipsea who were not well prepared for the muddy conditions (one kept slipping and sliding due to improper footwear).  Despite several falls, they made it to White Gate without injury.”

Another note was from Jeff at Aquatic Park.  Jump time was 7:35 rather than the reported 7:45.  The duty roster said to start at 8:00.  Net Control arrived just before 8:00 and no one else was there, so they were wondering if they were supposed to start at 8:30.  They set up anyway, but not in a hurry, forgetting that the first swimmer was out at 8:05.  Next time, remember that things are happening even if not at Old Mill Park just yet.

We had a couple of APRS trackers on the trail for this event, and several comments pertain to how we might improve their utility..
