{"id":3457,"date":"2015-05-22T12:18:56","date_gmt":"2015-05-22T19:18:56","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/w6sg.net\/site\/?p=3457"},"modified":"2016-03-12T12:36:53","modified_gmt":"2016-03-12T19:36:53","slug":"fcc-goes-paperless","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/w6sg.net\/site\/fcc-goes-paperless\/","title":{"rendered":"FCC Goes Paperless"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>From the ARRL VE Newsletter, May 2015:<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p id=\"yui_3_16_0_1_1432321368739_6002\" class=\"yiv7336934840MsoNormal\"><b id=\"yui_3_16_0_1_1432321368739_6001\"><span id=\"yui_3_16_0_1_1432321368739_6000\" style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><span id=\"yui_3_16_0_1_1432321368739_5999\" style=\"color: black;\">&#8221; FCC Goes Paperless&#8221; <\/span><\/span><\/b><\/p>\n<p id=\"yui_3_16_0_1_1432321368739_5996\" class=\"yiv7336934840MsoNormal\"><span style=\"font-size: 11pt;\">\u00a0<\/span><span id=\"yui_3_16_0_1_1432321368739_5994\" style=\"font-size: 11pt;\">In order to streamline procedures and save money, the FCC stopped routinely printing and mailing licenses in February.<\/span><\/p>\n<p id=\"yui_3_16_0_1_1432321368739_5993\" class=\"yiv7336934840MsoNormal\"><span style=\"font-size: 11pt;\">\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><span id=\"yui_3_16_0_1_1432321368739_5991\" style=\"font-size: 11pt;\">There are a number of ways a license holder can obtain an official copy of their license. The official license will display the FCC logo and the watermark &#8220;Official Copy&#8221; will be printed across each page of an official authorization from FCC.<\/span><\/p>\n<p id=\"yui_3_16_0_1_1432321368739_5990\" class=\"yiv7336934840MsoNormal\"><span style=\"font-size: 11pt;\">\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><span id=\"yui_3_16_0_1_1432321368739_5988\" style=\"font-size: 11pt;\">1.\u00a0 Download and Print License:\u00a0 The licensee can log into the FCC ULS License Manager System <a href=\"http:\/\/wireless.fcc.gov\/uls\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">http:\/\/wireless.fcc.gov\/uls\/<\/a> with their FRN and password to \u2018Download the Electronic Authorization\u2019 of the official license.\u00a0 On the \u2018Download Authorizations\u2019 page the license holder will <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">add<\/span> their call sign to the \u2018Authorizations to Download\u2019 and then click download. The PDF of the license can be saved to a computer and printed later or the file can be opened and printed immediately.<\/span><\/p>\n<p id=\"yui_3_16_0_1_1432321368739_5987\" class=\"yiv7336934840MsoNormal\"><span style=\"font-size: 11pt;\">\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><span id=\"yui_3_16_0_1_1432321368739_5985\" style=\"font-size: 11pt;\">2.\u00a0 Login and Set Paper Preferences:\u00a0 The licensee can log into the FCC ULS License Manager System <a href=\"http:\/\/wireless.fcc.gov\/uls\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">http:\/\/wireless.fcc.gov\/uls\/<\/a> with their FRN and password and set their own paper authorization preferences for future mailings. This option determines whether a user will receive paper authorizations (printed license and FRN information) from the FCC. The license holder would select either YES or NO and then click SAVE. By selecting YES, you will continue to receive paper authorizations printed and mailed by the FCC. By selecting NO, you will not receive authorizations printed and mailed from the FCC. This preference will affect all granted authorizations on this FRN.<\/span><\/p>\n<p id=\"yui_3_16_0_1_1432321368739_6005\" class=\"yiv7336934840MsoNormal\"><span style=\"font-size: 11pt;\">\u00a0<\/span><span id=\"yui_3_16_0_1_1432321368739_6006\" style=\"font-size: 11pt;\">3.\u00a0 Receive License via email:\u00a0 When modifying, renewing or requesting a duplicate copy of the license, a licensee who already has an FCC Registration Number (FRN) and provides a valid e-mail address under \u201cApplicant Information\u201d while logged in to the ULS system will receive an official ULS-generated electronic authorization via e-mail. <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"yiv7336934840MsoNormal\"><span style=\"font-size: 11pt;\">The action of adding a valid e-mail address into the FCC system can also be performed by a VEC filing new, upgraded, modified or renewed licenses on behalf of applicants.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"yiv7336934840MsoNormal\"><span style=\"font-size: 11pt;\">\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-size: 11pt;\">4.\u00a0 Contact FCC:\u00a0 Licensees may contact FCC Support via the web, by telephone (1-888 225-5322) or by mail to request paper licenses. Please note that FCC recently stopped using distinctive paper stock to produce hard copy licenses and has been printing these on \u201cstandard, white recycled paper.\u201d The Bureau noted that the distinctive paper stock it had used was six times more expensive than the plain recycled paper it now uses.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"yiv7336934840MsoNormal\"><span style=\"font-size: 11pt;\">\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-size: 11pt;\">All this information is located on the VE Resources page <a href=\"http:\/\/www.arrl.org\/resources-for-ves\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">www.arrl.org\/resources-for-ves<\/a> in the section titled &#8220;Obtain a License Copy&#8221;. <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"yiv7336934840MsoNormal\"><span style=\"font-size: 11pt;\">\u00a0<\/span><b><span style=\"font-size: 11pt;\">Additional Information<\/span><\/b><\/p>\n<p class=\"yiv7336934840MsoNormal\"><span style=\"font-size: 11pt;\">\u00a0A<\/span><span style=\"font-size: 11pt;\">n unofficial &#8220;reference copy&#8221; can always be printed from the FCC\u2019s ULS License database <a href=\"http:\/\/wireless.fcc.gov\/uls\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">http:\/\/wireless.fcc.gov\/uls\/<\/a><span style=\"color: black;\">.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p id=\"yui_3_16_0_1_1432321368739_6017\" class=\"yiv7336934840MsoNormal\"><span style=\"color: black; font-size: 11pt;\">\u00a0<\/span><span id=\"yui_3_16_0_1_1432321368739_6015\" style=\"color: black; font-size: 11pt;\">New licensees may choose to register their SSN (social security number) with the FCC and receive a FRN before the exam date to make retrieving a copy of their new license after the session much easier.<\/span><\/p>\n<p id=\"yui_3_16_0_1_1432321368739_6014\" class=\"yiv7336934840MsoNormal\"><span style=\"color: black;
