{"id":313,"date":"2013-12-02T21:52:58","date_gmt":"2013-12-02T21:52:58","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/w6sg.net\/site\/?page_id=313"},"modified":"2020-08-25T08:47:11","modified_gmt":"2020-08-25T15:47:11","slug":"fcc-registration-number","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"http:\/\/w6sg.net\/site\/why-how\/exams\/fcc-registration-number\/","title":{"rendered":"FCC Registration Number"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>For new license applications, it is strongly recommended that you visit the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.fcc.gov\/uls\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\">FCC ULS Website (http:\/\/www.fcc.gov\/uls)<\/a>\u00a0\u00a0to obtain an FCC Registration Number (FRN) before you appear for examination,<\/strong> which is an approved substitute for your SSN,\u00a0for dealing with the FCC.\u00a0 Otherwise you will need to provide your <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">Social Security Number<\/span> on your application, which will be visible to everyone who processes your application.<\/p>\n<p>US government agencies, like the FCC, are\u00a0required to have a taxpayer identification number (<span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">Social Security Number<\/span> for individuals) on file, in order to process requests. Effective 2003, if you enter a TIN other than your SSN, or an approved substitute <strong>(FRN),\u00a0<\/strong>the FCC\u00a0will dimiss (reject) your application, without any notice to you. If you fail to enter a TIN, or approved substitute <strong>(FRN),<\/strong> or if your application is incomplete, the FCC will dismiss your application, without any notice to you. (You <strong>may<\/strong> hear from the VEC processing your application if it incomplete. No guarantees!)\u00a0\u00a0If you choose to put down your SSN, on your application, the FCC will issue\u00a0new licensees\u00a0an <strong>FRN<\/strong>, when processing your application.\u00a0 <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">NOTE: Some VE Teams require an <strong>FRN<\/strong> in order to process your application. \u00a0(It is permitted under VEC &amp; FCC rules.)<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><em>It only takes about three minutes, online, to apply for, and receive an FRN, on the FCC&#8217;s secured website. <\/em><\/span> <a href=\"https:\/\/apps.fcc.gov\/coresWeb\/regEntityType.do;jsessionid=mjS3Xtgdf1BBqvpthtTQC5ZDyNPMLVvh7yWZscpNGFlJrT1DFJSj!1786951039!1933580708\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\">__ Apply for a FCC Registration Number<\/a> <\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"color: #ff00ff;\">Individuals holding a current or expired (issued since 1975) FCC license in any service, already have an FRN, which should be used on your application.<\/span><\/strong>\u00a0 The <strong>FRN<\/strong> should be printed on your license. If you do not know your <strong>FRN<\/strong>, you can do a name or\u00a0call sign\u00a0search on the <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/wireless2.fcc.gov\/UlsApp\/UlsSearch\/searchLicense.jsp\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\">FCC ULS Website License Search page<\/a> <\/strong> to retrieve your <strong>FRN<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #008000;\"><strong>FCC regulations require applicants to supply a valid US mailing address on their applications, for processing by the FCC. 47CFR 97.23, where applicants can receive mail from the FCC.\u00a0 Returned mail from the FCC will cause your license to be suspended or cancelled.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p>In addition to registering, the ULS system permits licensees to provide administrative updates (ie: change of mailing address) and to renew their Amateur\u00a0license, up to 90 days in advance of the expiration date.
